Setting up non-returnable products

You can make products non-returnable using tags

Updated this week

The feature matches up the product tags in Shopify with the tags indicated in the Non-returnable items section on the Returns policy page.

To set up non-returnable products:

  1. Access your Shopify product tags. Go to your Shopify admin > Products and then select the specific product you want to make non-returnable. Look at the bottom-right corner for the Tags input field. Add the applicable tags to products that you would like to make non-returnable, or use existing tags. For example, common product tags to exclude products from returns include 'sale', 'clearance', and 'custom'.

Note: The tag will be displayed to the customer so we recommend using customer-friendly name to explain the reason the product is non-refundable.

2. In ZigZag Returns and Exchanges App, go to Settings > Returns policy.

3. On the Returns policy page, scroll down to the Non-returnable products section. Add the same tags in the Product tags input field as found in your Shopify. Separate the tags by a comma.

Note: Tags must not contain spaces or special characters.

4. Click the Save button to apply the changes.

You can watch our video guide on how to set up non returnable products.

When customers try to return products tagged as non-returnable, they will see the message as displayed in the example below and will not be able to proceed with the return.

Note: The feature typically requires some time to take effect, so make sure to test your non-returnable tags after deploying them.
